4 Steps to Getting Started
- INITIAL PHONE CALL When you call us for the first time, we try to gather enough information about you to determine if counseling is appropriate for you, and if so, who should be involved in the therapy process. If therapy is indicated, your therapist will call you to set up your first appointment.
- HISTORY TAKING During the first sessions, we spend time learning about you, the people and relationships that are important to you, and the major issues in your life that will help increase our understanding of your needs. We'll review with you any of your past that may be relevant to your current struggles.
- INFORMATION FROM OTHER SOURCES We may ask, when appropriate, for your permission to contact other people who have been helpful to you in the past, or who may support your work in therapy now.
- GOAL SETTING Once we learn more about you, we'll ask you what changes you would like to make in your life and what you hope to gain from the therapy process. We then work with you to establish clear goals and the course of action that will help you reach them.
